This pair of facility is designed for culturing bacteria in in-situ conditions. That means that the pressure, temperature and component of culture medium have to be exactly the same with where the bacteria are sampled. Only in that case can we draw a conclusion on what the bacteria is like in the sediment under the sea.

Methane is provided to feed the bacteria and necessary safety early warning system is included.

The most difficult part is the sealing machine because the high pressure at the bottom of sea has to be guaranteed after sampling. This raises a high demand for design and production.
With the help of Underwater Engineering Research Institute, we get this model of sampling device.
