It was difficult to master the motion of a rigid body by measurement of displacement motion because what we get is scalar quantity while what we want to get is vector quantity. However, by calculation with MATLAB, we can acquire the motion using transformation matrix and Euler angle. In that case, after calculating the coordinates of several points measured by guyed displacement sensor, I can acquire the vectors needed to determine the Euler angle of a certain motion state, thus I get the 6 DOF motion of the rigid body.

This method was applied in calculating the generating ability of the wave energy generator. After conducting literature review on WECs, I found it a rather complicated area. There were several countries around the world utilizing wave energy in different ways. Among them, the Pelamis was a good example. And in this project, we decided to do something like it. Among all kinds of sensors I chose guyed displacement sensor for its small size and low cost.
